Midweek Moments

Lifestyle + Home

It's been a week of cloudy weather, runny noses and indoor entertainment. Hours were spent at home, in the car and climbing walls. We managed a trip to the museum, an afternoon watching aeroplanes and one hundred books and board games.

Sticks and Scribbly Gums

The Everyday Adventure

The winter chill has set in, but the afternoon sun is enough of a reason to get outdoors. We have found a great hike for tiny legs. It is part bushtrack, part boardwalk and about 1.4km long, so we make it to the end with only 1 snack stop along the way :) The bush is full of Scribbly Gums and beautiful trees but today it was about finding the perfect walking stick.

Catching the winter sun

The Everyday Adventure

The skies this winter have been clear and blue and the view to the horizon is so sharp. It is whale watching season so we headed to the cliffs of Kamay Botany Bay National Park to spot some of the biggest creatures on earth. We were lucky to see several humpback whales enjoying their trip up the coast, but the kids (and husband) didn't last too long before it was time to head down to the water to explore.

Early Explorers

The Everyday Adventure

The perfect afternoon for exploration. We followed in the footsteps of the early European explorers and visited Captain Cook's landing/invasion place. It's a lot easier to navigate for toddlers than I'm sure it was hundreds of years ago, but we felt like the only people there. We learned about the Aboriginal people from the area and found our own treasures in the bush and on the beach. Rock pools, shells, sea creatures, flowers, rings made out of clover and a sun setting over the water.

Finding fairies

The Everyday Adventure

There is something magical about the imagination of a child. There are no limits, no logic, only endless possibilities. I remember building little houses out of sticks or rocks or whatever I could find and creating tiny worlds around me. I'm excited to get lost in that world again with my own children. Yesterday we went walking through bushland not far from our house. The cold dewy mornings and sunny days have created the perfect conditions for mushrooms and they have sprouted up everywhere. It was like stumbling across a forgotten fairy forest. Unfortunately most of the mushrooms were trampled, a great cause for concern in the eyes of an almost 4 -year old as the fairies would have no where to live. We collected sticks and leaves and built them a little house amongst the trees. Tinkerbell left a note for my daughter overnight to thank her for her efforts :) We went back to visit this afternoon and thankfully our little fairy house held up better than the mushrooms. I got to see the excitement on my daughters face as she called out to the fairies and tried to coax them out of hiding.
