Big blue summer days

The Everyday Adventure

It was one of those evenings where the sun glows off the water and the sand reflects like glass. There was a definite summer vibe to the last few days of 2015 and it was nice to spend some time at the beach. A little bit of calm before the crazy storm that is 2016. This year is a big one for our family as we head off on an adventure around the world with 2 little kids. A couple of suitcases, a handful of continents and almost 12 months overseas. We may be crazy but I'm getting very excited! We leave in 1 month so our home is currently a madhouse of packing boxes and travel plans.

The Streets of Tokyo

Travel + Adventure

Tokyo is a crazy, vibrant, electric and amazing city. Each time I visit I find new things to love about the place. This trip was a short whirlwind weekend for a close friend's 40th birthday, and we made the most of our time, kid-free and ready to explore. There is no shortage of things to do in this city but my favourite Tokyo activity is to wander the streets soaking up the atmosphere. The city is huge and each corner so varied and unique. You can be crossing the street with 2500 people one minute, then sitting in a tiny bar built for 7 people the next. The food is amazing, the people are so polite and the sake is growing on me. This was our first time visiting in at the start of winter, when there is a chill in the air but the trees are still hanging on to their yellow leaves. We will definitely be back, next time with the kids!

An afternoon at low tide

The Everyday Adventure

We call this place The Secret Beach, not because it is particularly secluded (it isn't), but because it's hidden from the street and it is easy to miss if you don't know where to look. The girls love it at low tide because you can walk fifty metres offshore and still be standing in knee deep water.  It's a great place for little kids to enjoy the water without the usual crash of waves you find on Sydney beaches.

Building a city in the bush

The Everyday Adventure

There is a Casuarina forest in our local park and it is a pretty cool place to hang out. We never see other kids when we are there but there are signs of them everywhere.  Teepees have been popping up throughout the forest and it makes the best playground. We had fun trying to build one, I felt like a kid again and the girls thought it was pretty special. This place seems like it is in the middle of the bush, not a few kilometres from the city.

Two blocks from home

The Everyday Adventure

We had an early taste of summer but it has slipped back behind the clouds. For the last few days our gumboots have replaced the beach bag at the front door and we have spent our time very close to home. The extent of our adventure has been down the street and around the corner. The streets are so familiar I could walk them blindfolded but it is nice to feel at home.

Midweek Moments

Lifestyle + Home

Midweek Moments is a glimpse into our life at home. The quiet and the chaotic days in our little inner city terrace.

Some days we are out and about constantly. Other days it is almost dinner time before I realise we haven't left the house. The last couple of weeks have been full of the latter, long mornings in pjs and afternoons at home. The girls have been busy covering each other in glitter and painting their nails (and arms and legs) with water. The couch has proved very popular!
